Predator 4 & Alita: Battle Angel Get New 2018 Release Dates

It has been reported today that The Maze Runner: The Death Cure, the third movie in the franchise, is being delayed almost an entire year while leading man Dylan O’Brien recovers from on-set injuries. In the wake of this, 20th Century Fox has done some rescheduling, handing out a few new release dates, and shuffling others. The biggest of these upcoming movies is director Shane Black’s Predator reboot, which is arriving earlier than expected. And producer James Cameron’s Alita: Battle Angel has finally been given an official summer release date.

Set up as a true sequel to the first three films, The Predator reboot will arrive as a big budget tentpole. 50 Cent is reportedly starring in the movie, which may bring Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s Dutch back from the 1987 classic. The sci-fi thriller about a hunter from outer space who collects skulls as trophies was originally set to open on March 2, 2018. It will now be in theaters on February 9, almost a full month earlier. In its original frame, the movie had no direct competition. Though, it was arriving a few weeks after Marvel’s Black Panther. Now it will face some real competition in its new slot, as it goes head-to-head with the blockbuster sequel Fifty Shades Free, the final movie in that romantic drama series. It will also now be going up against an Untitled Warner Bros. Animation Movie. Black Panther opens the following week, on February 16.

Alita: Battle Angel is a movie that has long been in the making. It was originally positioned to be director James Cameron‘s follow-up to the biggest movie of all time, Titanic. He instead decided to direct the second biggest movie of all-time, Avatar. Now, he has slid into the producer’s seat, with acclaimed action director Robert Rodriguez taking the helm. The movie has stacked out some prime summer real estate, and will debut on July 20, 2018. This slot was originally being saved by 20th Century Fox for an Untitled Blue Sky animated movie that has now been shifted out, and sits without a release date. Battle Angel currently has its entire weekend to itself. Universal will be opening an Untitled Illumination Entertainment franchise animated movie a week prior. And in the following week, DC and Warner Bros. will deliver Aquaman on July 27.

Fox has also shifted around two untitled Marvel movies. The first moves from January 12, 2018 to March 2, 2018. The Second actually skips back a month, from July 13, 2018 to June 29, 2018. It isn’t known what these movies are, but currently sitting without release dates are The New Mutants, The X-Force, Gambit and Deadpool 2. Fox is also planning X-Men 7.The Maze Runner: The Death Cure was originally slated for February 17, 2017, but is being delayed by almost an entire year, moving to January 12, 2018.

Other release date shifts include the A.I. thriller Morgan, which gets a wide release on September 2 of this year. Keeping Up With The Joneses, which features the stealer ensemble of Gal Gadot, Isla Fisher, Jon Hamm and Zach Galifianakis, is releasing a month later on October 21. Then on November 11, we’ll see the debut of Warren Beatty’s latest directorial effort Rules Don’t Apply. Shifting from March 24, 2017 to February 17, 2017 is A Cure for Wellness. The female-led spy thriller Red Sparrow gets a November 10, 2017 release date. And finally, according to Deadline, the remake Murder On The Orient Express is arriving a few days early than expected, dropping Wednesday, November 22, 2017 instead of November 10.
