News: Xbox One's April update rolling out today with 1440p support

Microsoft has confirmed that its April Xbox One update has started rolling off production lines today, and comes packed to the rafters with a bunch of key features for Phil Spencer and co’s beloved black box.

One of the biggest showstoppers for the update is the inclusion of 1440p support for video playback and games on Xbox One X and Xbox One S, which offers a significant boost over 1080p. Furthermore, it now allows developers working on Microsoft’s 4K-powered behemoth to render games at native 1440p.

Elsewhere, Microsoft’s buffed Mixer with a Share Controller feature, which does what it says on the tin; streamers can offer up control of their game to a viewer by handing them a virtual pad. In addition, you can also fire up a stream from anywhere on the Xbox One.

The Microsoft Edge browser has also been given a revamp, allowing for a more modern aesthetic, while further improvements mean you can now download and upload various media from the browser and use the Explorer app to view the content.

There’s a heap more to tuck into, so be sure to hit up Microsoft’s lengthy Xbox Wire post for the full skinny on April’s update.
