Michael Shannon Fell Asleep Watching Batman v Superman

If you found Batman v Superman to be a tad on the boring side, you’re not alone. Actor Michael Shannon, who famously played Zod in 2013’s Man of Steel before showing up as a corpse in Dawn of Justice, admits the movie couldn’t hold his attention. And he actually fell asleep watching it.

This is probably the last thing director Zack Snyder wanted to hear. But Michael Shannon is known for speaking his mind. And sometimes he’s a little more eccentric than your average actor. While his likeness did appear in the movie, he didn’t actually show up for those scenes. A dead Zod body was fashioned out of molding done for Man of Steel.

Michael Shannon actually found himself in a bit of hot water last year when he made some colorful comments about his participation in Batman v Superman. He claimed that Zod was returning with flippers for hands in Dawn of Justice. He later recanted that story, saying it was all lies. Which we know now to be true after seeing the movie. There is no flipper Zod to be found. And ever since, Michael Shannon has remained relatively quiet on the subject of the movie as a whole.

Michael Shannon was interviewed by The Playlist, and the actor was asked to give his final verdict on the movie. It’s probably not what anyone expected him to say. He explains his feelings towards Batman v Superman.

“People ask me about this all the time. Okay, I’ll tell you the god’s honest truth. Zack [Snyder] is gonna kill me for this, he’s gonna kill me. I watched it once and I fell asleep. I know, I know… I was on an international flight and I was tired….I shouldn’t have been watching it on a plane. But I never go to the movies anymore! I don’t have time to see anything. I used to go to the movies all the time when I was 20 years old and wasn’t working 10 days a week.”

At least he has a good reason for falling asleep. Even when a movie has your full attention, it’s sometimes hard to keep your eyes open under the best circumstances, especially under the early stages of exhaustion or work fatigue. At least he didn’t give the obligatory ‘It was great’ answer, and stayed truthful. Perhaps he’ll one day watch it under better circumstances and claim he loves it.
