Jennifer Lawrence +ACY-amp+ADs Ron Howard Team for Zelda Fitzgerald Biopic

Jennifer Lawrence is teaming up with Ron Howard to star in a new biopic focusing on the life of Zelda Fitzgerald. Jennifer Lawrence is in talks to star as the title character in this project, currently entitled Zelda, which Ron Howard has been developing, with an eye to direct. This biopic will also reunite Jennifer Lawrence with producer Allison Shearmur, who she worked with on The Hunger Games franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news earlier today, revealing that Allison Shearmur will produce alongside Cross Creek Pictures’ Brian Oliver, whose upcoming biopic Hacksaw Ridge is getting awards season buzz. Allison Shearmur was an executive at Lionsgate when The Hunger Games franchise first hit theaters. Jennifer Lawrence will also serve as a producer alongside her producing partner Justine Ciarrocchi.

Emma Frost (The White Queen) wrote the screenplay, which was inspired by Nancy Milford’s best-selling biography Zelda. The story will center on Zelda Fitzgerald, a Jazz Age icon and the wife of iconic author F. Scott Fitzgerald. She was her husband’s biggest muse, although she became desperate to define herself through her own art, with the movie said to question whether love can “exist between creative equals.”

F. Scott Fitzgerald once called his wife “America’s first flapper,” as they both became icons for their partying ways in the Jazz Age. She eventually was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was confined to specialist clinics. The couple had not been living together when F. Scott Fitzgerald suddenly died in 1940. Zelda Fitzgerald died in 1948 at the age of 47, when her hospital in Asheville, North Carolina caught on fire.

No production schedule was given for this biopic, and it doesn’t seem that Zelda has a studio home at this time. Jennifer Lawrence most recently starred in Joy, portraying Miracle Mop owner Joy Mangano, and this summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse. She will next be seen in the sci-fi thriller Passengers, alongside Chris Pratt, which hits theaters nationwide December 21.
