Black Panther Villains & Returning Marvel Characters Revealed?

When Captain America: Civil War hit theater earlier this month, it introduced Marvel fans to a number of new characters who will have bigger parts to play in the ever-evolving MCU. The two most prominent characters we met for the first time were Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, both of whom are getting their own stand alone movies. Today we have word that the upcoming Black Panther movie will also feature two more characters from the MCU who have been previously established.

Movies Casting Call has a new casting call up that reveals both Ulysses Klaue, who was played by Andy Serkis in last year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Everett K. Ross, played by Martin Freeman in Captain America: Civil War, will be part of the movie. Oddly enough, though, the casting call specifies that Andy Serkis will be playing Ulysses Klaue, but they don’t mention that Martin Freeman will be returning as Everett K. Ross. It’s possible that this was merely an oversight, or Marvel could be re-casting the role.

This report also reveals a slew of Marvel Comics characters who will be featured in Black Panther, who have not yet been cast. These characters include Monica Lynne, a singer who saved T’challa from drowning after he was defeated by Killmonger. Monica Lynne is said to be T’challa’s “longest love interest,” whom he’s pledged “eternal devotion” to. Others include N’Gassi, T’calla’s adviser and acting regent when he’s away from Wakanda, Oyoke, a former member of the Dora Miljae and now part of the J’Kwali tribe, Queen Divine Justice, another former Dora Miljae who is part of the Jabari tribe, W’kabi, T’challa’s second in command and Zuri, a close friend of T’challa.

The casting call also reveals that the studio will be casting for comic book characters such as Reverend Achibe, a poor farmer who sold his soul to Mephisto, Erik Killmonger, a powerful warrior and political strategist, Malice, a former Dora Miljae member with superhuman strength, Man-Ape, leader of the Jabari tribe and White Wolf, T’challa’s adopted older brother and former leader of Wakanda’s spy organization, Hatut Zeraze. This casting call also confirms previous reports that shooting begins in January 2017, with a February 16, 2018 release date in place.

Chadwick Boseman will be joined by Lupita Nyong’o, rumored to be one of T’challa’s love interests, and Michael B. Jordan, who is said to be playing an unidentified villain. Ryan Coogler is directing from a script he is currently working on, which was originally written by Joe Robert Cole (American Crime Story). Naturally, none of these characters listed above have been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios yet, so we’ll have to wait and see. Stay tuned for more on Black Panther as we get closer and closer to production starting early next year.
