Tony Cavalero Is Ozzy Osbourne in Motley Crue Biopic The Dirt

Tony Cavalero is riding the Crazy Train to Netflix, as the actor has been cast to play Ozzy Osbourne in the upcoming Motley Crue biopic, The Dirt. Netflix is currently working on a biopic that chronicles the career of Motley Crue, one of the biggest and most recognizable rock bands of all time. Though Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t directly involved with the group, Motley Crue toured with the Black Sabbath frontman on one of their early tours and is going to be included in the biopic.

The Dirt will primarily focus on Motley Crue’s rise to fame in the 80s, which was when Ozzy Osbourne was at the height of his powers as a rock n roll icon. Ozzy had his fair share of struggles with alcohol and substance abuse, which also plagued the various members of Motley Crue. So this is sure to be a big part of Ozzy’s inclusion in the movie. As for how much Osbourne is going to be featured in the biopic? That’s up in the air currently, as no further details on his part in the movie have been revealed, but one has to imagine they wouldn’t bother casting the part if he’s not going to at least be somewhat prevalent in the story.

As far as Tony Cavalero goes, he certainly looks as though he can pull off the look of a younger Ozzy Osbourne. And his career is already tied to rock music. Cavalero is best known for portraying Mr. Finn on Nickelodeon’s School of Rock TV series. That role was originated by Jack Black in the 2003 Richard Linklater movie of the same name. Black is also the frontman for Tenacious D, so Cavalero has already proved that he can fill some pretty big shoes in the rockstar department. But it doesn’t get much bigger than Ozzy Osbourne. No pressure.

Luckily, this biopic is about Mötley Crüe, so the pressure won’t be on Tony Cavalero as much as it might be if there were a biopic about Ozzy’s life. The Dirt will feature Douglas Booth as Nikki Sixx, Iwan Rheon as Mick Mars, Daniel Webber as Vince Neil and rapper Machine Gun Kelly as drummer Tommy Lee. The movie is based on the 2001 autobiography The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, which was authored with the help of Neil Strauss. At the time, the book helped set a new standard for rock memoirs. Let’s hope the movie can capture some of that same magic.

The Dirt will be directed by Jeff Tremaine, who is best known for his work on the {Jackass] movies and MTV series. Rich Wilkes, Tom Kapinos, and Amanda Adelson penned the screenplay for the movie, with Julie Yorn, Erik Olsen, and Allen Kovac on board to produce. There’s currently no release date set for The Dirt, so it’s not clear exactly when we can expect to see the movie arrive on Netflix, but we’ll be sure to keep you up to date as more details on the project are made available.
