Indie developer Fatshark has announced, with a short teaser, that it’s making Warhammer: Vermintide 2, a sequel to the million selling game Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide. The game will come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Details for an actual release date are currently unavailable, but the game will be getting a worldwide reveal on October 17.
The End Times moniker in the original game’s title has been removed. The End Times was an apocalyptic event where the owners of the Warhammer IP, Games Workshop, destroyed the world of the tabletop game before heralding the dawn of a new age, The Age of Sigmar.
Not much is given away in the trailer, apart from the description which says, ‘if you fall so will the Empire’, so you could take that as a clue that the game will be set in the Old World once again. Perhaps Karl Franz will be doing battle with the Skaven and a new enemy come the reveal in mid-October?
Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide was a multiplayer-only first-person shooter-cum-slasher game, that took place during the End Times. Set in the city of Ubersreik, players could join with up to three others in a fight against a race of rat-like monsters called the Skaven. Players could choose between five different character types: the Witch Hunter, Empire Soldier, Dwarf Ranger, Waywatcher or Bright Wizard. Each character had their own unique set of skills and abilities which had varying levels of effect against the hordes of Skaven.
At the end of each mission, players would receive loot and trinkets as a reward for completing certain tasks, and Vermintide pays homage to the board-game by deciding which reward the player(s) would receive on a dice roll.
Fatshark will probably announce more details about Warhammer: Vermintide 2 at the worldwide reveal on October 17.
