News: A Nintendo 64 Classic Edition is looking very likely right now

The Big N could be looking to release a pint-sized version of its classic mid-90s console, the Nintendo 64.

That’s according to a recent European trademark filing by the industry giant (via Business Insider), which heavily indicates that a Nintendo 64 Mini is on the horizon. It would make a lot of sense, as Ninty has previously released miniature versions of the NES and SNES.

What’s the big deal about the trademark, you ask? Well, it features a basic outline image of the N64 pad in the very same style of the NES controller silhouette that’s featured on the NES Classic Edition box.

In addition, Nintendo previously filed a similar trademark for the SNES Classic Edition prior to its launch, which again featured the same style of image for its own controller.

Here’s an example of the NES version…

…and the SNES Classic Edition box, which features the controller logo on top…

..and finally, here’s the Nintendo 64 image that was trademarked. Quite similar, right?

Nothing official has been announced by Nintendo just yet, although we’re remaining cautiously optimistic. In the meantime, Sony is gearing up for the launch of its own mini console this December, the PlayStation Classic.
